R-454B retrofits for Florida commercial refrigeration

The 2025 EPA AIM Act phase-down forced the industry off R-410A. Here is what Florida restaurants need to know about the transition.

Section 01

Why R-454B

Lower GWP (466 vs. 2088 for R-410A) makes it compliant with the EPA AIM Act phase-down.

Section 02

Is R-454B a drop-in for R-410A?

No. R-454B is A2L (mildly flammable) and requires UL-listed components designed for it. Hardware matters.

Section 03

What it means for existing R-410A units

You can keep running R-410A units until failure. Plan replacements with R-454B-native equipment.

Section 04

Florida mechanical code updates

The 2023 FMC amendments added A2L-specific requirements. Confirm local AHJ interpretation before install.
